OK, trying to remove cam tower... My craftsman 3/8" drive 6mm allen head socket will NOT fit inside the cam housing (where you remove the 8mm allen head bolts) ... Anyone else have this problem??

If you have the original porsche tool kit that long-*** alan wrench works.

And dont drop them in there... Trust me it sucks to get them back out....

You can get a long 3/8, 6mm alan socket at Sears, or you can buy a set of long sockets at Harbor Freight.

Make your own.
Just take your Craftsman 3/8" 6mm allen socket to the bench grinder and take the
outside of the socket down until it will fit into the cam tower.

Also, you cut the short bend off of one of the "L" shaped hand allen wrenches, then use a 6 point 6mm socket on the (now straight) allen wrench.

That's how it's done. Tape the wrench inside the socket so you don't lose it to a hungry camshaft.

That's almost exactly what I did also. I cut a L shaped allen and used a closed end wrench as close to the cover as possible. I put lots of grease on the end of the allen head to help keep the bolt attached and also gave the allen a little smack with a hammer to set it in the bolt.

I stripped one of those SOB's that was much tighter than the others and had to use my CV 12 pointed socket hammered into the bolt, and alot of foul language, to remove. Good luck.

I got three 6mm allen sockets.

Two 1/2", one 6" long to reach inside the cam housing, and the short one is used around the car (seats and so on).

One 3/8" to use incase the 1/2" drive is too big.
