Default Engine stuck to Driveshaft??

Finally got around to this... anyway....

Ive followed the Haynes manual word for word and Im to the point where it says lower it down and forward out of the engine.

Ive tried the engine at every vertical position, low and high, trying to pull the engine off the driveshaft. The 4 tube to housing bolts are out.... lol.... I cheched....

The engine will come off the shaft about 3/4 of an inch after that it just seems stuck.

What am I missing? I dont think I can pull much harder without sliding the car across the ground.

The only things applying any force to the engine are the hoist, driveshaft, and gravity.... Im at a total loss.

The trans is automatic if that makes any difference. Does the engine have to be at #1 TDC for some reason??
Any ideas?
Thanks....

Try a prybar between the engine and the flange on the torque tube, or 2 with even pressure on both prybars, one on each side.

Are you using a load leveler an your engine hoist? If you are not pulling it straight out it will bind easily.

Nah... I dont have a leveler....

Should the engine be pulled at the position the engine is normally in? Or should it be higher or lower?

Hopefully thats the last stupid question.... lol

Thanks again

I lied...
How far does it have to come forward before it's free of the shaft?

a long way...
You need to clear the splines all the way out of the clutch housing from the sound of it.

If you think its hard to remove without the load leveler try installing it that way. Well worth the money before you are at that point again, you can get them cheap if you google it.

You have to wiggle and rock the engine around. It binds up pretty easily unless its at the perfect angle, which is very hard to hit without a leveler. A second person can be a big help, if they get under there with a pry bar like Mark suggested.

Edit: Rock the engine forward and back, not rolling it side to side.

It should not be really bound up, most it should take is adjusting the level on the engine hoist. It needs to come about a foot forward.

A FOOT!? as in 12" foot!?
Bloody damn! I was thinking it would be like 3 inches....

SO now I am assuming that I have to drop the engine below the frame before I pull outwards? Because even though I have the radiator out and such I dont have a foot of clearance between the frame and engine....

..... a foot????

Are you going out the top of the bottom?

Isnt the bottom the only option? I was trying to just go forward until it was free of the shaft then drop it down and out?
Do i have the order wrong here? Should I go down then forward?

You can go out either way. It's easiest with the headlight motor/mech and radiator/radiator frame removed. How far torn down is your engine?

I removed the radiator, alternator, AC, PS pump, Air intake to the throttle body. The headlight stuff is still in.
Only the front of the car is jacked up. Does that matter? the car is sitting at like a 35° angle ..... ?

Am I right in trying to pull forward before going up or down?
