Default Little K26-8 and K27-6 comparo...

Well,

Greg East and I traded cars for a little bit today. They're pretty comparably modded, except I have a 3" turbo back as compared to his stock exhaust with Bursch test pipe, I have an ebc vs his mbc and I have a K26-8 vs his K27-6.

Power delivery between the two cars feels very different, mine is more immediate with a stronger "hit", his feels more linear and doesn't seem to run out of breath way up top.

Interestingly enough, the cars were basically even on the road tho. Really splitting hairs, I imagine they'd dyno pretty close to one another as well.

So I geuss the moral of the story is that it's not worth replacing a K26-8 with a K27-6 unless the K26-8 has blown up...

Are both of you using some sort of MAF setup? Also, when do you feel your 26/8 kick in? Mine seems to come in ~3750-4000 RPM.

We both have Vitesse MAF's. My K26-8 is at full boost at 3000 rpm. If you're not getting full boost till 3800, there's something wrong. Are you using an electronic boost controller?

Right now I am using an MBC. I have heard that can get quicker spool with an EBC. Do you think that it could it make that much of a difference if I was using an EBC instead?

Doc, you're ruinning a Profec B correct? What are your settings? I'm still running my 26/6 settings with the Garrett and it seems like she should pull more.

Woah, even my friend's K27-6 car with stock air sensing and exhaust makes full boost ~3100 RPM. I'd check out your vacuum situation...

I would expect the #6 to spool up faster than the #8 I have. But if Doc is hitting it at 3k, then you may be right. Or, this may be the difference between an EBC and MBC. Wonder what other people are seeing that also have a 26/8 and MBC setup. I will check again for vacuum leaks, but I was pretty sure I had eliminated all of the already.

The ebc does make a big difference, it's worth the money.

Not sure what my settings are, boost setting is around 35 I think, and I'm running gain and set gain around 15 I believe...

How does that work? If the wastegate is closed, it is closed. It doesn't matter why it is closed, it will still hit max boost at the same time.

Beats me, it just works better. Boost hits sooner and harder...

The stock boost control is so-so at best. MBCs often let air leak a bit, since they are still spring valves. Add in the fact that the stock wastegate is also pretty so-so...

EBCs use solenoids or stepper motors which wont bleed air and crack the wastegate open a bit like MBCs.

Felt about the same as mine, hard to say, his boost gauge is below the radio, so it's alot harder to see. His car is also ALOT more quiet than mine, so it's harder to gauge in general what's happening.
