Hmmm, so everyone here is telling me that they would pay the exact same amount for the car whether it had 57,000 miles on it or 63,000 miles?

polo,
I looked at an 86 NA in sept 03 just after my red S2 was stolen. It wasnt mint, but then again my definition may be higher than yours. It needed about 500 in body work total to be perfect, and the sunroof headliner was sagging IIRC. I also think it had something like 45k miles on it.

bottom line, i took the 7500 value of a perfect car and deducted for the body work, water pump, replacement of the rubber clutch, dried out motor mounts etc. needelss to say the owner was offended when i offered mid fours. if yours has a new spring centered clutch, water pump and belts you are looking at a 7-7500 car. deduct from there and see what it is really worth. sorry to burst your bubble.

if it is an automatic start at 5000, and make sure the rubber donut for the transmission the $600 part is new.

how old is your water pump, your belts etc?

If it really is "mint", then a concours nut will pay a premium for it. But it is probably not "mint" in their eyes. Take it to a concours and see what kind of score you get.

What's magical about 60K? You'll have the same drop in value as you cross 57,264.

ya NOW you can say that...

but seriously these cars are meant to be driven dammit! if you are so concerned about its value then sell it and get one over 100k that you can actually drive! its no fun to own a really nice car that you can't drive.

3k until 60k - heck, that would last me several years at the rate I drive mine!

I wouldn't worry about it. The older cars get, the less mileage matters. Even if it were to impact the value today, in 5-10 years the difference between 57k and 75k might not matter at all. How many ads for 356s, long nose 911s, or 914s even state the mileage? It's kind of irrelevant for a 30 year old car -- condition is what counts. Who'd believe it without day 1 documentation anyway?

But whats the point of owning the car?! Might as well have it sitting in the living room! Unless it already is! (i think it would be awesome to have a car as part of the furniture!)

As mentioned 944's prices don't really reflect the car. Usually its ~5k for a NA, 10-12k for a 951. All that matters is how much someone will pay for it.

Personally, I didn't care much for the milage, but rather the care put into the car. A well maintained 200k 944 is still a very good value for the current market prices.
