Default Gates timing belt online

I'm looking to buy a Gates timing belt for my 944 but I can't find a place that sells the Gates. I only want to have it shipped with USPS (not UPS).

I"m ordering rollers/ tensioners from Paragon but I'm not sure if they have a gates belt.

they have 2 belts listed, aftermarket and OE but doesn't say the brand.

also anyone know of an online place that sells the cam sprocket and balance belt sprocket ?

from what I've read Gates makes the best belts and it doesn't cost much more than the Conti so I want to go with the Gates.

thanks.

Definitely go with the Gates PowerGrip. Paragon does sell it and it is labeled as "OE" Ians Online = 944 Online has them as well. I had a Conti T-belt fail on me for no rhyme or reason and I bent all my valves on my NA. After that I went with the Gates and I noticed it to have much better rubber coverage around the chords and it was much more flexible and not plasticy stiff like the Conti. Many people have run the Conti with no problems, but one is enough for me. Take care!

Dan, I have had one bad experience with them, but many many people have great success. When I spoke to Ian (who rebuilt my head after all valves bent) from 944 Online he said he had been running them for 20 years without a fail. And after looking at the Gates I found it to be a superior looking and manufactured belt. And it gives me more peace of mind for just a few dollars more. Do a search under my name on this board and you will find my T-belt broke thread.

I've used contitech on my non interference 924, I didn't drive that car much but the timing belt looked like it was of good quality.

the belt that I took off my 944 was also a contitech and looks good. However I've read that Gates is the OEM suplier of belts for most new cars from the factory.

It's pretty hard to say if Gates is better than Conti, I think way more people use the Conti than the Gates anyways.

Thanks for the info I'll order the rollers / belts from Paragon. Are you sure the OE belt is Gates? it may be possible that they changed to another brand.

I did contact Jason from Paragon when I last ordered belts for both my cars and at that time they were the OE Gates PowerGrips made in the U.K. You might want to double check just be sure.
