I have an old version of the tool, infact the beta test version. Bruce has since made a few changes to the tool which allow it to measure balance belt tension aswell. My friend has the newer one, but i have not used it to check the balances shaft belt yet.

I just bought the full toolset with 920x from Bruce. It will be a few weeks at least until I'm ready to tension belts, but I will post my impressions when I do.

Maybe I'm hallucinating but I do use the 9201 and can get consistent readings with it. However, if I didn't have one already (that I bought 13 years ago for $375), I would certainly purchase Bruce's complete tool set. I had to fabricate my own pin wrench and eccentric wrench way back when. You guys have it easy now....

I was planning on doing belts this winter, too, but I think I read somewhere that it should be 60 degrees (F) or warmer... at work now, so I don't have a reference. Maybe someone can check? It was a balmy 7 degrees this morning so I was going to put the belts off until spring.

Either way, I need to get those tools ordered...

Anyone know if this temperature "recommendation" is true?

Yeah, it worried me, too, which is why I'm putting it off... that, plus I'm a slacker

I don't drive it during the winter, so putting it off isn't killing me. The belt that is on there now (unknown age and mileage) looks new; the belt change is for my peace of mind

Anyway, I remember the source now - it was in a 944 maintenance video Andrew sent me. Took me back when I heard it, as that's the first time temp has been mentioned. But it does kinda make sense that a belt installed today (high in the teens, I think it's gettiing 10-15 below this weekend) might be tensioned a bit off.
