FS 91 944 S2 3.0 head
Removed from a 91 944 S2 with 212k miles. The head is a great candidate for a rebuild and will need to be at least resurfaced before it can be used. It is slightly warped at around .002”. I believe factory spec calls for a resurface at .0019. The head has never been resurfaced and there is plenty of material for resurfacing which will leave the head perfectly flat. There is some corrosion in non combustion/ non structural areas of the head that should be filled in. A local Porsche shop has used JB Weld with great success, aluminum can also be used. Any competent machine shop will be able to resurface and fill the head.
The exhaust cam has been magnifluxed and is in great condition. The intake cam is missing 6 teeth, but did not slip. All valves are good and seal tight. Hydraulic lifters have been replaced sometime in the past as well as the chain pads as indicated by their minimal wear. Valve cover has been sold separately.

The head is now on eBay with the auction ending on 8-16 (tonight) at 7:00 PST, reserve is set at $550. Use the link in my sig for the eBay auction.

That head will require dissassembly and welding to repair the coolant damage on the deck. JB weld should never be used to fix a problem like that on the head. The Porsche shop that gave you this bad information must be a bad shop.
Just FYI for anyone looking to buy it.
P.S. The head shown above is a 3rd gen S2 head.

Don't mean to hijack - but I have a spare "S" head that I need some welding done to. Since the one for sale apparantly needs this - where is a good place to get it done?

A good performance engine machine shop.
The head has to be heated up in a oven before it can be welded with exstensive damage (So it doesn't warp). If the damage is slight you can get away with a torch to the local area (aka small amount of damage) and a quick weldjob. usually these smaller jobs can be done without removing the valves.

This is a mistake that most redneck shops make. Preheat the head in an oven to an exact temperature!

Guys, what's a fair "street" value for this head? Is it that expensive to fill the deck properly? I may look into fixing the head and selling it as recondition and ready to go.
thanks,

I almost picked up heads in good shape with 110k for between $500 and $750. So if yours needs work plus cams and with the high milleage I would say it is worth about $350 but that is if there were other heads available... It's hard to say since S2 heads are relatively rare... There was a rebuilt S2 head advertised on the list a couple of months ago for $1500. It had a new tensioner, new valves/guides/lifters and was shaved.

When I replaced my headgasket and found corrosion on the head, it ended up costing me $475. It did include new springs and all the other small parts. Man.... the thing looked like new though!
