do you run premium fuel? If you dont have a turbo you dont need it, itll soot things up real good. Run some E-check in a bottle or some fuel injector cleaner etc through it and it should loosen the carbon deposits up abit. Or you can do an "italian tuneup" and go beat the car some and itll shoot it all out the exhaust pipe.

Do you have a cat. in the car?
If not, the black soot/spit is completely normal. Just some carbon and moisture blowing out the tail pipe before the engine and exhaust heat up. Normally this would be caught in the cat. converter, but w/o a cat - it goes straight out the muffler tip and onto the driveway, garage floor, garage door, etc.

Is that the consensus on premium fuel? The PO of my 944 N/A told me to only to run premium and that is what I have been doing. Be nice if that were not the case....

yep. ran 87 on my 84 and had NO problem. actually ran better than when on premium.
i also get soot and moisture on startup on the 951, but i'm running reeeeeal rich, and it goes away if i mash on the gas.
