Default Well the p-car is down again

So i'm riding along the other night around 2 in the morning going home and I turn onto a street in the gear. So I release the Clutch and I hear a pop. All it does is feel like its turning the gears but not moving, wtf
So I throw it down to 2nd, same thing then over of 1st... Nothing

Roll into a parking lot, try all the gears even reverse, nothing at all.
MF!

And then When I tried to get a tow truck out there, all the companies were busy and had to wait til morning to pick her up. Now she is sitting in the driveway.

Any thoughts other than clutch or maybe pressure plate?

What tools am I going to need to take the clutch out?
Does anyone have anything to sell me if it is the clutch?

Ugh, right before I was suppost to go up to atlanta for the gtg

I'm thinking broken axle. I had the same thing happen in my 84, a loud pop then no movement. Ended up being a pretty cheap fix, much better than a clutch. Jack up the back end and see how the wheels spin by hand.

i will check both out and get back to yall

edit: just put it in gear and took the e-brake off, and yea it rolls almost like its in neutral, i'm going to jack it up and see how the wheels turn by hand

2nd edit: Jacked it up, threw it in second gear and yes it does move like its in neutral

So what does this mean, and are there any more tests to be performed?

could it be time for the clutch master and slave? I'm not sure where the "pop" would come in if it were that though...

Lt. Reid, sorry to hear about your problems. I'm guessing this is why I haven't heard back from you regarding 944fest registration and payment. I'm going to scratch you off the drivers list, let me know if that is not your intent.

Thanks

I had something like that happen twice once the bolts that hold on the cv joints broke. The other time the linkage screw went missing.

Does your clutch have the rubber center? (I don't see your car type/year listed in your sig.) My 85.5 NA did the same thing, same symptoms, turns out the rubber center disintegrated.

Was there a smell like burning rubber coming from underneath the car when it happened? Mine stunk (or is it stank........or stinked? )

I hope it's something more simple.

It wouldn’t cause that’s not what happened. If it was the master or slave the clutch wouldn’t work and the car would stay in gear. If you don’t know what it is, then by all mean, don’t just blur out theories that don’t make any sense.

Sounds like either a broken axle, a broken pinion, broken torque tube/drive shaft or a failed clutch disk.

my car is a 83
i think i'm gonna try and drop the rear end today and see if i notice anything because before, when you let off the gas completely, the car would shake for a second like there was play in the drive shaft and then when you got back on it it would do it again briefly and keep going, but if you pressed the clutch in and then let off the gas no shaking

Was the car 'bucking' when giving it gas after coasting...if yes, sounds like the clutch disc was on 'limp home mode' and the 'pop' is when it finally let go.

I had something similar happen last month -- it was simply that the CV bolts backed out.

yea it was bucking, but its been doing that for a while, but i was never sure if it was that or the driveshaft or something so i could never get in there and fix it cause i had no clue was it was

but anyway, i started the car up a couple mins ago and put it in gear release the clutch and it didn't stall out, all it did was sound like something was rotating like churning butter or something haha i have no clue

so should i pull the rear end or should i pull the tranny (because i have no clue, but i'm not afraid to get my hands dirty)

I say it was bucking (when you let on /off the gas?) because hte rubber center was shot.

which in turn beat the **** out of your ring and pinion.

so I say replace the transmission and clutch! The car will feel brand new

wait, now if the rubber center is shot, that means a whole new clutch?
and ring a pinion also, good deal
