Default 36F with R134a A/C on a 944 Turbo

I just had the Kuehl compressor and Kuehl condenser from Griffiths Technical installed on my 944 Turbo. The tech measured a 36F vent temperature with 85F ambient air! I just picked up the car, and it was an icebox within 5 minutes despite 90F heat and full sun. That's the good news.

The bad news was the cost. Total Griffiths parts bill was $950 (compressor, drier, condenser, 2 barrier hoses, fittings). Total labor was $980 (10 hours) plus another $75 for refrigerant & dye. The tech said that the compressor required about 6 tries to get it to fit properly with the bracket, tight hose fittings and splice required on the low pressure hose. However, he finished up everything with no leaks, and I should be set for a long time now!

BTW, all of my parts were original from 1986. The compressor still worked with R12, but after 20 years I figured the seals were probably almost gone. Also, there was a leak at the condenser, on the side near the fittings.

Now I can drive the car more than a month in the spring and a month in the fall.

Congrats. As a former mid-westerner (St. Louis...Go Rebirds!) I can really appreciate how this will turn your car into a 3 season mobile. Enjoy!
