Default Idle

what is the NORMAL 944 NA idle supposed to sound like?

My rpms dont fluctuate but it is kind of sputtery and there is clicking(im assuming its the injectors) but when i rev it, the clicking gets louder and when i go through a tunnel you can hear it, it kind of sounds like a whirring.

is this normal?

Clicking can be from the injectors or noisey lifters. The injectors are pretty loud. I would assume its your lifters if it gets louder as you bring the RPMS up.

The sound from the tunnel is hard to diagnose through text. A whine isnt totally out of the question.. most 944's have a distinct sound like that. Could be a miss adjusted balance shaft belt idler pulley.. if its contacting the belt it will sound like the car has a super charger. A whirring sound.. i dont know, maybe bad roller? How does it sound if you bring up the RPM's sitting in neutral?

i just first noticed it in the tunnel but now i can always hear it, i opened the hood and pulled the throttle cable and it sounded like it was the injectors or somewhere in the cylinder area
