squeaking on startup
Ok, as many of you know I now own an 87' 944S. My friend said that this wasnt anything to worry about, but figured i may as well ask some people on here. When I start the car first thing for the day, a loud squeaking comes from the engine, and only lasts a maximum of 5 seconds, then never comes back again unless it has another cold start. Is this anything to worry about? thanks

PS / AC belt? Check the tensioning on the auxilliary belt.
have someone start the car whit you looking under tyhe hood to see if you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from.

I think it is coming from the belts, just cant tell which one, but ill do that. I just thought that if it were major, it would squeke the whole time the engine is on.

The noise is from the belts and probably the AC compressor. As long as the noise goes away after a few seconds not to worry. But you should still look into it as something is seizing at start up. Does the AC work?

Check the volt gauge once it's started cold. If the volts jump up when the squeaking stops, your alt/ac belt is loose.
That belt is supposed to be quite tight. As a matter of fact, I need to add some tension to mine because it squeals sometimes as well.

It can. when the aux belt is loose, it'll squeal when cold, then warms up and quiets down. and will squeal again when the pulley starts to slip. It could be either the PS or the AC/ALT belt.
Push the belt with your finger, it shouldnt be easy to move the belt, or you can twist the belt, no more than 90 degree deflection.
(Mine is usually the AC belt , louder than the PS belt due to the width and it's a 7 rib belt, PS is a V groove- different pitch squeal)
