I don't know if that interior was mass-produced, but I don't see them around that much now-a-days.

Welcome to the 944 boards! I myself started with a 944, and now I have a 968, which I think of as a 944 that has evolved towards a 928. My dad has a 928, and I like staring at it, driving it, everything but WORKING ON IT. If you do your own wrenching, you will find the 944 is MUCH easier to work on than a 928. But there's no denying the torque from a 86.5 928S. Nice collection, and good luck with the 944.

thnx everyone, for the warm welcome. the checkerboard interior is starting to intrigue me more & more. at first i did not think it was a big deal because about 15 yrs ago i was in Germany i test drove a 944 and it had the checkerboard. plus i remember seeing them in a couple of 924's here & there, and i have a book with compiled articles of 928's(from Road & Track) and i remember seeing 1 w/the checkerboard, it might have been a test on a euro model though, i'll know in a bit when i get to work and find it again. so, what i'm trying to say is i kindof thought it was common but i guess its not. obviously that makes me want it even more!
also, what is the horspower on a U.S. spec 83 verses an Euro spec. i'm guessing 150 for US & 163 Euro

Is that truely a Euro spec car, or is it just someone got a Euro bumper for one?

My Euro spec (ROW car) has that same bumper, but no fog lights in the lower front valance. It may be a US car that just got retro fitted with a Euro bumper.

See below. (Am not in the US, and truely is a Euro Spec car, though an 89)

that is a gorgeous 944 EURO you have there. i have noticed also the lower foglamps, and the owner told me he has all the paperwork to prove it is a Euro. i haven't looked over any of the records or paperwork because we are in the very early stages of a deal.i want the shop to diagnose the car before i negotiate with him. but if its nothing major I WILL OWN THAT CAR!
can someone list me all the visible differences between a US Spec & a Euro?, so i can look it over for the differences.

Yours is a Euro. side repeaters in the front fenders, stupid looking amber sidemarkers on the front air dam that were added later, yours might also have stuck on rear sidemarkers that look like they don't belong, I noticed on the picture with the driver side door open the label on the sill - it should tell you where the car was converted to US specs, it might have a welded in or clamped in cat in the exhaust. It won't have a charcoal canister in the regular location in the driver side fender well, it also won't have the emissions crap beside the firewall on the driver side in the engine compartment. Some Euro spec cars did have the fog lamps in the valence...mine doesn't but many from England did/do. You're lucky that the bumpers were not switched out with US spec aluminum ones!
I finally put a fiberglass Euro bumper on the back of mine...now for the front.

it does have all 4 add on side markers. here is a link that proves what you say about the foglamps.
