Porsche gathering feeler - Central Texas - please read!
So I keep reading about how cool these Renntreffen and 944Fest meets are and I am always thinking, "it sure would be nice to have one of these closer to me". I have been wanting to do something like this for several years now and I think it finally might be a possiblilty.
They recently built a "Hanger Hotel" at the airport here in Fredericksburg that is basically like a 1940's era Army air base/hotel. There is the hotel itself, a big hanger/convention hall, 1940's style diner, and a very classy bar called the Officer's Club. The same guy that owns this thing also owns my favorite resturaunt - the Fredericksburg Brewery - a German food/microbrewery which already hosts "Boxtoberfest".
So here's what I am thinking - I am going to call the Hanger Hotel and ask about group rates and use of the convention hall. I would like to see us have a fun run through highway 16 and 46, some kind of Concours, German food/beer, and just general slacking off and playing with cars.
Please please check out these links and tell me what you thing and if you would be seriously interested in doing something like this. I will also need help organizing and planning, so if you are willing to help - let me know!

Assuming no conflicts already in my schedule (4 marathons in the fall), I'd be all over that. As it is, we're planning on going to Renntreffen. I'm really looking forward to that.

You can definitely count me in. I always look for good excuses to go driving out that direction. It looks like an excellent location Daniel. Do you have an idea about how long from now you might want to have this? I'd love to help out however possible, though I'm probably going to be insanely busy with work over the next couple of months. Drop me an email or PM if you have ideas or would like help with something as I'll gladly do what I can.

Yeah, this year is going to be a no-go - busy physically and financially - going to spend a couple weeks in Europe at the end of the year.....
I was thinking spring of 07 - so it will be nice and cool yet sunny.

BIG EDIT - I was just thinking - it doesn't have to be just 944's, I would love to see some rear engined cars there as well!

If you are serious about all porsche models you might want to get some co-sponsers from the other boards to team up with you on the organization of the event. It might be overwhelming to organize it when you are not familiar with those members.
Ps personally I would stick the first year to either just 944's Or possibly front engined Porsche's (I do love those Sharks) If it is really successful in the spring no reason you couldn't have one in the fall for all Porsche's

Heck, great idea!! I'm in and if you need any help let me know, I'd be happy to help coordinate or whatever. Any excuse to go to Fredericksburg and the Fredericksburg Brewery.
Note: My car should be running by spring of '07.

I'm game, assuming you pick a weekend I don't work. Furthermore assuming I have the car operational at the time of your GTG.
I assure you in the brief moments in the sun that my car and Keith's car actually make it out of the garages, they make a pretty nice pair.
