In other news - 944 to 968???
So I was just browsing the classified today for no apparent reason except I have been keeping ontop of porsche ads since I bought mine, and there is a 968 black convertable on sale right now. they want $10k for it.
I sent the number a text message asking about the VIN.
If it is a US spec car. I may consider selling the 944 (I know I just got it) and getting the 968 instead....
Why... well.. here is my thinking
The 944 is a ROW car, and I emailed a registered importer to find out what it would cost to get the car imported into the states. but their website clearly said normally the process costs about $6000. well the n/a is hardly worth that... so that seems silly... Once a car is 25 years old you can import it easily for just the cost of shipping, but younger than 25 years old, has to pass a bunch of tests unless it was manufactered for the states, which mine wasn't.
If the 968 is a US car as opposed to ROW importing it would be a piece of cake, which is why I asked for the VIN. WPOZZZ = REST of Worls WPOAA2 = US spec car.
KBB says a 968 convertable good condition is valued at 13-15k. So I am considering it... Anything I should be aware of on 968s? What would you do?
What is the true street value of these cars though?

Well here is the Vin decoding information I am using..
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/P...6/VINAnat.html
Or did you just mean that the chassis numbers in most "non offical locations" are going to be zzz, and only the official Vin panel will be correctly done with the US code.

Brian - I've owned a 944, 951, Boxster and now a 968. The 968 is about the same maintenance wise as the base 944, with the addition of the variocam. But the 968 is the best car of all the ones I've owned. It drives the best, rides the best, looks the best, etc...to sum it up.
If you have a minute, go to www.968forums.com and sign up and read the posts there about the cars. There's a TON of good information.

Thanks, I tried to call the seller today, but the number given in the paper was wrong.. typical... so I'll watch it and see if the number is fixed tommorrow and try to follow up.
