That's unbelievable! I've kept cans like that in trunks for years with no issue...but I'll never put one in the 944 again! Sorry to see that!!!!

I have a can of fix-o-flat to fill up the spare tire in an emergency, even though I know it isnt the right thing to use. Over the weekend I found a $7 tire inflation tube from Harbor Freight that is used to pull air from the other 3 tires when filling up the compact spare. I am SURELY getting that thing and tossing the can of fix-o-flat.

Thank goodness it didn't go through the hatch glass!!!

I feel bad for you! I'm busy trying to clean up my interior... It's a TON of work. And your carpets were beautiful!

Well DAMN Brian.
Thanks, taking the Fix-a-flat outta the 924S now..

Sheesh- thats gonna be damn near impossible to clean. I'd call the MFR for fix a flat and see what'll clean it, and if there is any cause for alarm with the product- I'm sure a LOT of people store this in their car for emergencies- imagine the liability and propensity for a lawsuit if that sucker whizzed part your head in the cabin while traveling at 65 mph..

Lucky you werent driving when it happened- I can only imagine the reaction I would have if that blew when I was driving. Hell, I'd be in a ditch somehere.

FWIW, the cabin temp of the 924S (Black interior) was 125 F today when I got in at lunch.

Thanks for all the sympathy guys. I didn't really curse that much as I was in such a state of shock. I'm more mad at myself for letting it happen...but I wasn't hurt so life goes on.

I am pretty bummed that the frame/paint was dented because I just had that area fixed over New Year's after being rear-ended during Hurricane Rita evacuations from Houston. AND I had just managed to get the ghetto tint (was delaminating and peeling) off the hatch. I could actually see out the back again - but no more!

Best as I can tell it happened around noon on Saturday. Local high that day was 95 or so, it was probably around 90 when it happened. The can was probably 1 to 2 years old. May have had some rust that weakened it. I still have the can, so I'll look tonight.

As for the hatch carpet, it came like that from the PO. I assumed it was standard issue.

that happened to my car years ago. But the fix a flat was in a plastic coleman cooler with 2 quarts of oil. Blasted the hatch off/apart and misted the entire interior with oil. People in the office reported hearing a shotgun blast.

wow... I thought I had it bad when a Coke can exploded in the hatch of my Integra. The temp suddently dropped from 0°C to -30°C overnight and blew the tab out. I was luck that it was only 1 of 10 cans... the one that exploded was nearest the box opening, while the others were insulated by the box.

if you read the fine print of the fix-a-flat can, it says not to use it on z-rated tires. has anyone tried it on them? i almost did, but changed my mind after i read that little warning...

after seeing those pics, i suppose you are lucky it didn't fire through the back glass like a rocket...

I used to mount and balance tires, and after using fix a flat, don't expect them to ever balance out right again...
