Default I've got a lot of body roll...

Yea so finally someone took a lot of picture of me autoxing last weekend and I was shocked to see how much body roll my car was doing. Is this normal for our cars?
the link to the pictures is here.. http://poppy.smugmug.com/gallery/1671298

Looks on par with what i have seen with cars running stock suspensions still.

Your shocks / struts are probably tired and need to be changed. Does your car have a rear sway bar?

Its easy to check, just crawl under with a flashlight. Unless your '83 was upgraded it at best probably has a 14mm rear..even then i am not sure if rear swaybars were standard equipment on early 944's unless you have M404 or M456 optioned car.

A bigger sway bar will go a long way to helping reduce body roll.. but if your shocks and struts are worn out they should still be changed.

Spring rates will be a BIG help in fixing body roll, assuming your running tired old stock stuff- these cars were all undersprung from the factory. Your car, being an early NA, is probably close to 200lbs lighter than a Turbo S, so your car is in the mid 2900lb range w/full tank, etc- I went to 275's on my Turbo S w/100lb rear helpers (I'll never use springs in the rear again) & the dif in body roll, dive, & squat was amazing- you could do 250's & get similar results. Also, larger sways would help, obviously- I have some Turbo S M030's (26.8mm front w/the real 18mm rear) that I'm going to be throwing on ebay soon- if you're interested, PM me for more details. I think they'd make a ncie addition to a NA- AAMOFF, I went to 968M030's & I really can't tell a dif (& I notice very subtle things)- sort of pissed me off, but... BTW, yes, your car looks very normal- just take a look at Techno Duck's avatar. These cars had a lot of body roll for several reasons. Easily cured w/a few simple mods...

Yeah, in stock form, our cars exhibit a lot of body roll / dive / squat:

With my new suspension (400lb springs front, 31mm hollow torsion bar rear), I have significantly less body lean. Keep in mind that my spring rates are better suited for track use - I have my car setup for DE's. But these spring rates are perfectly fine for AX - they are NOT too firm.

Easy fix:

1. Buy a 914
2. Install coilovers
3. Adjust to stiffest setting

You're done! 0 body roll.

Ok 2nd try, here goes:

1. Remove weight (A/C, P/S, relocate battery to the rear, etc).
2. Install coilovers, adjust to stiffest setting
3. Install M030 front/rear bars and charley arms (or similar)

d993- whatcha got to sell? Years, colors, etc...? OR, are you just messin w/us poor front-engined watercooler guys...?

Another thing to remember, the stickier the tire, the more body roll you'll have- if running slicks w/stock NA suspension, you'd probably be scraping body panels...
