I think you're right- best thing would be a locksmith to come out & have key made or even take the cylinder to someone, but a good locksmith could probably do it w/out even removing it from the car- that'd be worth the ~$25 house call charge all by itself... Or, maybe you can send ME your cylinder & my dealer would make a key Sorry, it's really not funny- I'm just surprised your dealer wouldn't do it- maybe they can't key things & can only copy??? Funny about the VIN thing b/c my dealer didn't even know I had the car- I just walked in w/keys- they never even LOOKED at the tags, nor asked for registration, etc. Just- "Sure, we'll make a copy." Of course, they had to order a blank- maybe they'll run me through the ringer then...? I'm just worried about my wheel lock key- they might not be able to get a blank & it's my only one...

Doc, it's time to demonstrate absolute bribery in this case. You must cave in on all family conduct and tell the kid you will buy them anything they want. Either that, or ground them from Prom... did you check the air vents, assuming you have floor vents? God forbid that she flushed them... oh Lord.

I think she's a little young for that to have much impact... Yes, it's probably time to start thinking like a kid though... scouring her entire world on your hands & knees... BTW- how do you know she lost them anyway? You don't think she swallowed them...?

Guys, the car is unlocked. I can get into it, I just can't start it without the keys.

She definately got into the spare key, I have no idea what happened to the primary one.

Since she's 16 months old, she isn't talking yet and doesn't fully understand what you're saying either...

Gotta love young kids taking stuff! My 18 month old keeps hiding our remotes in the GARBAGE!

Anyway, call Sunset Imports. They quoted me $56 for a new lighted key, cut using the VIN, as long as you can prove ownership (faxing a copy of the title, registration, etc). Not sure how long it will take them though...but check with them.

That actually sounds like a pretty good suggestion, a strong flashlight might come in handy. Any scorched electrical outlets anywhere?

Next will be the keys to the liquor cabinet..

I did that when I was barely 2yrs old. Had a few keys on a string- wearing on my neck- parent's & friends were in other room & all of the sudden, they heard that sound- if you've ever heard it, you know... The only reason it didn't kill me is b/c the string broke- if it were metal or if the electricity had gotten to the other keys, who knows...? I'd stuck a key directly into the outlet like I was trying to start a car- maybe I was trying to drive a wall...?

I edited my earlier post since I now get that the car is UNlocked. I would agree w/Greg & Andy on Sunset- not sure how they could do it from the VIN & the other dealer could not though... But, if you are not able to go that route, I'd start callingn locksmiths & get one to come out to your house- but make sure that whoever you call actually can do the Porsche key & doesn't have to order a blank or something like that....

Wow, I have read this thread a couple of times and for some reason always thought 16 year old... Which made me think:What was your 16 year old daughter doing driving the 951? And why cant she look for them or retrace the day...

Try this: Give her some other keys to play with, preferably ones you have spares for. See where she takes them.

Well, had a locksmith come out and make keys today. Took him over 3 hours to do it. Wish I'd seen the Sunset Porsche thing. I'll take one of my "new" keys to the local dealer and buy a nice, lighted, porsche crested key for my main key and stash these other two...

I always keep a spare key in the garage, on the shelf. Mostly because I always think of something to do to the car that means I need a key--but never have one on me at home. Might be a good way to insure nobody leaves you keyless in the future!
