I think putting a 944 motor into anything else besides a 924, 944, or 968 should be limited to someone who has far less brains than time and money combined.

It only proves that yes, it can be done.

It's not compact, not lightweight, and requires too much maintainance for the power output.

That Golf could have received a lighter, simpler G60 Corrado engine swap in 1 day, and made more power (plus more power potential) than a n/a 944 motor. Plus, you change the $140 timing belt/water pump kit in 2 hours and do it every 60k miles compared to the $450/8 hours labor/every 30k miles of the 944 engine.
Oh yeah, and the G60 engine bolts right in!

But G60 has one of the worst supercharger designs in history, the G-Ladder. Known to grenade itself and it's just a sub-par design.

You CAN easily turbo the G60 engine though, or go with a Lysholm supercharger of better design... but you'd still be FWD, or possibly AWD if you use a Syncro tranny.

I don't think he was doing it for any other reason then just to do it.

It is a BAD - *** car and seems well done. I doubt you'll see one like it running around. Also the VW might like getting some parts from the Porsche bin instead of the other way around

You're right, putting a G60 in a Golf is much easier than moving the whole 944-drivetrain into the VW. But a 944-powered Golf is some kind of special while nearly everyone got a G60 installed.

I'd like to take this Golf out for a quick ride. Wonder how it's running around the corners.

Btw: Here are some pictures of the Artz Golf (with complete 928 drivetrain)

Several years ago? I think that was around 1982!

wow...that looks really nice, but also must have been really expensive, esp for an engine that doesn't really have much more hp potential than a stock GTI engine...

I guess rwd is better than fwd, but looks like that conversion must've cost an assload of time and/or money....

Maybe so, but the VW Corrado 1.8 engine with it's "sub-par" G60 SC design has been known to go over 150k miles, produce over 350whp with bolt-ons, and it's easily a no-brainer compared to all the maintainace required and work done on the 944 swap..........
Some people just love to do extra work........ regardless of outcome. Put in 300% and get a 40% return.

I'm agreeing with you here, I just don't think the G60 is a great engine (Although I used to be really into them when I was planning to buy a Corrado a few years back)

I just found a 1.8L or 2.0L 16v Turbo or a G60T to be better than the regular G60.

For the record though, I haven't seen to many reliable 350 whp G60s... I remember a few years back there was a Stg. 4 kompressor kanada (something like that) company that would rebuild the G-Ladder to higher specs, smaller pulleys, new injectors, etc. and I can't recall them making 350 whp... I could be wrong though
