Lower radiator hose issues. Has anyone else had this problem?
Had a cracked lower radiator hose. So, I picked up a new one from Gates that I installed last night. I get the old one out and see that the new one is maybe 0.5" shorter than the old one. I say ok well I'll fuss with it and make it fit. Get it back on and it makes a good seal on the radiator & water pump. But, the new shorter length causes it to run about 5 degrees off what the original part ran. The small difference is just enough to get the hose rubbing up on the fan blades. *%(#^!!!!!
For now I've got a temporary fix to make the car driveable until I do something about it. I took some zip ties around the hose and pulled it away from the fan blades by pulling the hose towards the wall of the engine bay with them.
The part is not OEM so I figure my next step is to just order a part direct from the dealer so I know it will fit.
Has anyone else run into something similar to this?

Im pretty sure I had the same issue when I did my hoses last year. If I remember correctly, I had to use a piece of the old hose to wrap around the new one where it was rubbing on the fan shroud. Hoses on theses cars are just a PITA due to the low clearence.

Thats just the thing. It was the right part. Just because it wasn't from Stuttgart doesnt mean it wasn't the right part.

no. there are 3 different versions of the lower hose and they go according to engine, vin and year...the parts guy got it wrong. I work in aftermarket parts sales, having done it a long time , i know that the suppliers get it wrong. conti is the only reliable listing on Porsche hoses, evreplast is also ok. I never had a problem with fit and i have done quite a few of them personally

I have changed 3 of them on 3 different 944s. The only one that fit right without cutting it etc was the one I got from Paragon. The hoses like to get into the fans and the power steering pulley. On the last car I bought, the PO had put a tire patch over the hole the PS pulley had cut in it. Then he duct taped over the tire patch. Real nice. Be careful if you are stretching the hose, it is putting alot of stress on the radiator lower hose outlet and could cause the radiator to leak if it is old and weak.
