Default Got a speeding ticket! RANT!

I was on an open road today and got a speeding ticket. I was going around 100mph on my spedometer, but the po po said I was going 90 then dropped down to 66 when I saw him.

I know i know. Why is the sun round? Why did I speed? Why am I such an *******? Why cant I behave myself yadda yadda yadda.

but the real problem is

WHY IS MY SPEEDOMETER SO INNACCURATE? Its a 1986 951. Its got the early offset with later offset phone dials, however it has spacers that I believe are an inch. The spacers are the type that have extended lugs on it, not the shim type. Could this be what is causing the speedometer to be inaccurate? Does it depend on tire size or could it be the spacers? Im kind of out in the blue on this one.

These speedometers suck. How about how i know a certain persons speedometer on their early 944 here reads like 105 when they are really going 115-120.....

the spacers are not the cause of the speedometer inaccuracy; overall tire height is what can affect the gearing, and thus the speedo

You are one funny guy Rock. I have to meet you. You have all this bad luck, and the funny thing is it never gets you down. Then you get a speeding ticket for going WAY over the speed limit and all you're worried about is why your speedo is 10mph off.

But, stay away from my cars!

Well I mean im not like celebrating the fact that I got a ticket. This is my first speeding ticket I will have gotten. Ive gotten 8 other tickets, but all of them were for Virginia laws on the car. Like not having a county decal, a saftey sticker, a saftey inspection, broken windshield. Then the same cop caught me a week later and gave me tickets again for the same stuff.

I seriously need to stop getting tickets though because its getting expensive being on the defensive side of the court room.

I just hoped the speedo wasnt something homo like the tranny sender is going bad, or like a bad ground thats probally going to be impossible to find. So the conclusion is our cars speedometers just suck? Sometimes when Im going like below 40, I have to tap on the gauge panel to get the speedo to kick on.

Yes the speedos are a bit inaccurate from the factory, and if your tires are any different than stock (aspect ratio) the speedo might be a bit more off. However your last comment about having to tap the gauge cluster makes me think there is another issue here

How does Rock get a speeding ticket in a car that never seems to run?

I found my speedo used to read high with 215/60/15 tires, with 225/60/15 it is dead nuts accurate at 60mph, my test speed.

My speedo has problems too, sometimes when I think I am going like 245.6 mph I am really only doing like 243.8mph - pisses me off!

Psh, the Volvo's off. I've ridden in that guy's Porsche too, it does 65 all the time. Stop turning up your speedo so you can tell everyone about your triple-digit Volvo.

my 951 also does the thing where it wont register sometimes if i'm going below a certain mph (usually 30-40)

lemme know how that works out.

are your tire sizes different than stock?
