I'm surprised at how much light and original color actually come through.

Testors Model Masters Transparent Black Window Tint(product #2949)

I did it on a friends taillights and they turned out pretty good. The key is a lot of light coats. I'd also look at clear coating afterwards as his faded/flaked within a couple months.

I used Testor's to do mine. After a trip to 944Fest the result was less than perfect :

Yes, Testors makes some, but I'm not sure what plastics it's designed for.
Pactra's paint is meant for the lexan bodies of r/c cars (Tamiya has it as well, which I used on my 93 Impreza wagon... RIP). Thin coats are a must to have to stick properly.

I have yet to try the VHT Niteshades, but I have seen decent results with it. It all comes down to the final wetsand and clearcoat to really finish it off.

This is not an issue, it will wear off by itself. I have used a similar product and it only lasts 5k miles or so before it starts to disappear. I have since resprayed it again with even more prep and it still faded away after a while...

Maybe if you don't drive your car in the rain at all, it will adhere better.

Heres mine:

Looks good, but you should do the sidemarkers too.
