Question Passenger side window on early 944 problem

I saw a thread a while back about a problem with an early 944s passenger side window not working when using the passenger side switch but working with the drivers side switch. I tried searching for it but had no luck.

My 83 (late 82) 944 is having this problem. I tried taking the drivers side switch and putting it on the passenger side but that didn't do anything. What could be causing this? A bad wire?

Anyone have the same problem? What was your solution?

Power has to go through the drivers side switch to get to the passenger side switch. So both switches have to be back in place for it to work.

I suggest taking the switches apart one at a time and cleaning them. Keep track of where all the parts come from and how they fit back into the switch. If cleaning does not help then yes it could be a wire but most likely it's the switches. May have to buy new ones.

Also check the connection at the motor. Mine were a bit corrorded after twenty years.

Solution?

http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/elect-20.htm OF COURSE...........VERY common thing.

.........or just bit the bullet, and buy new switches, if repair/cleaning is not working for ya. ONLY about $120.00 plus for a set of three.

Ok, I cleaned the contacts in the switch and now I can use the passenger side window switch to put it down but it will not go up with the passenger switch. Well, it helped. Should I just get a new switch or show I clean the heck out of them?

Thanks for all the help everyone

I fooled w/ my early switches for about a year. Cleaned em several times. Worked for a while but led to continued aggravation. Finally bought two new switches from pelican parts for fifty some bucks and problem solved. Sometimes new is the way to go.
