OT--help deciding upon daily driver/suggestions
OK, so I should have enough dough in my bank account withing the next month to start looking at another car to drive as a DD, while I prep the 944 for track/autocross use.
I have been looking at early 90s Audi 200 Turbos, l
ate 80s/early 90s Volvo 240/740 series(prefferably turbo),
Toyota Corolla GT-S's (AE86) <--- if you wonder why, do a google search for AE86 and do some research, this is the only Toyota I'd ever own except for maybe a 1st gen MR2,
and also later VW Scirroccos
I'd prefer to have a RWD car/or AWD(scirroco is an exception)
It also needs to be half way comfy enough to use as a DD and have a little performance, and be economical
So what do you guys suggest that would fit my needs?

Of that list, no question: the AE86 assuming you can find one in decent shape.
I had an old girlfriend come SOOOOO close to buying one new in 85. ****, I wanted to buy one when I graduated from college the next year, but finding a job was a bit tough.

And about the SVX, I was shopping for one a while back, but they see hard to come by around here, as is the AE86, its just to hard to make up my mind, I can only afford to buy 1 at the moment

Also look into the 1991 318is. 2550 lbs, 134hp 1.8 i4 w/ timing chain, 4.10 LSD. GREAT cars with 30mpg, incredible handling, and unmatched reliability.
There are some locally in decent shape for under two grand!
I like mine a lot.

There is no comparison as far as maintenance costs. Parts are up to 5x cheaper, depending on the part. I mean, 30 dollar water pumps, 25 dollar brake rotors, etc.
There are also lots of used parts up for grabs. Take one for a test drive and see if you like it.
If I could start again, I probably would have gotten a 1991 318is over my current car.
An example: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/car/176248800.html This one needs a little work though.

Hmmm, I think I have made my decision, the bimmer it is (unless I can find an SVX for cheap, before I find a 318.) This thread has brought back my craving for an SVX
Thanks for the input Serge

Bimmers rust BADLY up here, otherwise I'd look at one. I see rust spots in the trunklids of E36s, and I've seen the trunklid actually rot on an E30. Looks like Swiss cheese around the trunk lock and propeller. Luckily, you live in an area where rust doesn't factor in.
