Question about KFP Gold Brake Pads
I installed a set of front and rear KFP Magnum Gold brake pads on my 1988 944 and they stop great but the squeal like a pig! I even bought brand new rotors and broke the pads in like they recommended. They dust alot but stop great hot or cold. Took it to 2 track events and they performed flawlessly.
My question is: Is there anyway to reduce or stop the squeal? I know there are some stuff you can put on the back of the pads to absorb the vibration but since I track my car, would this stuff melt off?
Please help. It is very embarrassing and annoying driving around town with such a loud squeal.

Put on some street pads.
Those are race pads, and as you've found, they are great for the track. I use 'em, love 'em. Wouldn't ever try anything else on-track.
Personally, I like how they squeal - that's how you know they're warmed up on the pace lap!

The short answer: no. There's really no way to stop the squealing. Like Vaughan - I've learned to live with it, considering their stopping power, and the fact that they are very rotor friendly compared to other track pads.

I've been jokingly calling my KFP pads my "pair of velociraptors". They move quietly until they attack and then their screech is almost as ferocious as their bite.

Hawk blues are great pads. Better track pads than the KFP's IMHO and I have raced on both.
HOWEVER, the hawk blues squeel more and the big problem is they wear the rotors pretty bad when used cold. Personally I would not used the Hawk blues on anything other than the track. They have great wear on track, but I believe the way they grip the rotor when cold causes lots of rotor wear. When hot they don't seem to wear the rotors very much at all.
So... the KFP's are a good choice for mixed street/track use.

So then KFP's are a good choice if you run DEs as well as the street?
It's just that the Mintacs that I'm running now wear out pretty quick, soon to be quicker as DE speeds and event frequency increases, and I was wondering if it would make sense to change brands, provided they are acceptable on the street.
How quick do they heat up? How well do they stop cold?
