just installed PBR metal masters!
so i did the 10 stop and go break in procedure. And now, i checked the rims and noticed a lot of dust. it was to my understanding that these pads were not supposed to dust up as much...does this only happen during break in periods? Also, a slight squeal is apparent, will that go away in time?

Yeah - I have the same pads. I think they are a tad bit less than normal pads but still dust when you drive. I was wondering what ceramic pads would be like, I hear they claim to be low dust as well. Although that's why I put the MM on to begin with as well :-(

I have ceramic pads on one of my cars and they dust up about the same as the metal masters. The only real way to avoid dust is to have pads so hard the won't stop the car. I inagine solid steel brake pads won't dust too much.

My MetalMasters dust but quite a bit less than the stock pads.
FYI - I run PBR Deluxes on my daily driver 328i and they really don't dust much at all. Certainly not my choice for track days or even much spirited driving but they bite well cold, don't dust much and are quiet. YMMV.

I'm really impressed with the PBR XBG pads on my 951. Even with cross-drilled rotors I have very little dusting and they stop great, hot or cold. Does PBR make different grades of pads that might be dustier? Here's some pics of the dust my fronts made with recently bedded pads and rotors after a 300 mile Fun Run in the mountains. I probably used the brakes more in that run than in 1000 miles of normal street driving.
Compared to the Mintex pads on the 83 it's day and night. Those will turn a wheel black in 10 miles, I absolutely loath them and curse the the day they were strongly recommended by a noteable vendor here. Oh well, at least I know what I'm buying next time.

love my metal masters. The way i was explained pad hardness, "do you want to replace your rotors or your pads more often?". If you like replacing rotors get some hard pads that dont dust but tear the rotors up. If you like to replace pads get some softer "dustier" ones. Metal masters are perfect for me, i replace them a few times a year w/ autox and DE but hey just $45 a set instead of $100 ea like rotors.
