Default Moving the Tach

Alright, so my 944 is a cup car, so I'm doing all sorts of race related things to the car. I want to move the tach from the side hole to the center hole in the 84 dash. I know there are 2 screws to remove to take the guage plate out, but my problem is i cant get that plate over the steering rack. Is there anyway to drop the rack even a 1/4in?

thanks!

I pulled it straight out of my 84. It had a momo steering wheel with a hub adapter though. You might have to take the wheel off, which isnt that hard. Its like 1 24mm bolt.

Just take the steering wheel off and the dash should flex enough and you have to be careful and you can manuever it over the plastic on the steering column and it'll come out, but it wont come all the way out because the speedo cable will be pulled tight so you have to reach your hand back there and unscrew it.

Removal is pretty simple, like rock said its just a 24mm or 15/16th nut holding on the steering wheel, plus the 8 allen head bolts if you have a momo wheel. You might need to trim a bit of metal off a bracket behind the dash cluster..i tried moving the tach to the center on my 924S but the speedo cable was just a bit not long enough due to this bracket interfering with the routing. You may or may not have this problem.
