Default Redline roll bar ?

Does the redline roll bar use special hardware for mounting or does it use the factory seat belt bolts?

Also is it a tight fit to the anchor points or is there spacing to make it easy to get in and out.

Thanks

It uses the factory mounting points for the seatbelts. The strongest holes in the car. Use a couple washers to make sure it fits correctly as each 944 really is "different". It's pretty damn close though. If you're looking for one I'd be willing to get rid of mine (going to a custom weld in next month).

Anthony, i was able to mount mine using the factory rear seat belt bolts. I think the more 'correct' way to do it is to use slightly longer bolts which i plan to do when i actually get harnesses hooked up. I asked RedlineMan this question directly because the bar i bought came with no hardware, he said too use 7/16-20 x2" length, Grade 8. Yes thats right, use INCH, not metric. Also the higher the grade hardware the better.

I dont want to be a deal buster, but i paid a bit more than $250 for the Redline bar i bought used. I still thought it was a very fair price. Hell its not like its a piece that gets used often if you get what i mean.

I just checked over his page (here ) and couldn't find if it was ERW or DOM. However I believe he is a national PCA safety steward, and PCA roll bars/cages have to be DOM so I would assume so... but you know what they say about assuming.

His roll bars aren't aproved for sanctioned racing. Great for HPDE and street, as well as a harness bar though.

Jon,

Thanks,

That was the info I was looking for. I purchased one used and it did not come with hardware. I have grade 8 and stronger stock at work. I too paid a bit more than $250 but well worth it. I could not get the stock hardware to work. I found if I switched the bottom and top bolts I was able to get them threaded but tough. I think I need to make some spacers to make it a good solid fit.

Nobody really wants to use one of these but better safe than sorry. Not quite at the cage stage yet.

Never claimed they were... I just thought it would be more his style to use DOM. Like I said, it was just an assumption.

Anthony, mounting it with the stock hardware was a real pain in the ***, trying to get the bolts to line up through the roll bar and into the threads, plus using my shoulder as leverage on the bar all while crouched in the rear seat...yea it was a mess. I honestly think the bolts only did about 2-3 complete turns before being tight.. i need to get some longer bolts in there but stupid Home Depot only has grade 5 bolts. Ive been meaning to order something through McMaster but am to lazy... .

A nice way to 'finish' the look is to spray paint the hardware black and put the plastic bolt covers that were on the rear factory hardware over the bolts. It makes everything look very clean.
