Default Body side modlings or no side moldings

I'm going through the process of re-painting my 89 951 and well I'm not quite sure if I want to keep the side moldings on the car or not. I think it looks alot cleaner and smoother without the moldings but they have saved a ding or two before. I didn't have modlings on my 968 and I liked it, what do you guys think, moldings or no moldings thanks.

I vote for the clean look. Only because two of my peaces fell off, so the rest came off before paint. It is a cleaner look.

You're going to find as many opinions on this as people have for the choice of oil.

I personally like the moldings because they help break up the expanse of metal on the side of the car. It makes the car look shorter.

Your car will thank you for keeping the rub guards...plus you will feel much better parking it anywhere.

All that being said....It is not a protect all and I have been dinged above and below. But those trim pieces have taken so many hits the trim paint is bunged up, but not the door!!

I think they are important, and look good on 944s. It depends on the car though - I think a 968 would look better without them.

Take them off! IMO they destroy the look of the 944. When I have had 944's with them I always wished they weren't on there. Just be careful where you park and you will be fine.

If you do decide to keep them on it, please have the car and moldings painted seperately. I have seen so many 944's that have been repainted and someone was lazy and left the moldings on and now there is a bridge of paint between the molding and door that looks aweful.

I like the moldings, personally. They are also quite practical. If I ever had to repaint mine, they'd stay. I feel like ditching them screams "repaint," which may or may not be a bad thing depending on the quality of the job. OTOH, I'm probably not the norm among 951 owners -- I keep my car looking original, right down to the phone dials. If you're a 968 mirror and door handle sort of person, it's an easy call to ditch 'em.

oh yeah no doubt about it, we already took the moldings off no way would we paint with them still on. From what I've seen, I think I like the look of the car without them so I'm just going to do that.

Mine will be fully removed when the car gets repainted. Right now I have the door strips but nothing on the fenders or 1/4 panels, it looks a bit odd.
