KLR stands for the four German words Knock ( and ) Boost pressure Regulation; I remember reading that somewhere...I don't remember the source, and I don't know german so I can't confirm

Someone today told me it stands for Digital Motor Electronics, to which I said, "fine, but it must stand for some absurd German title as well, that just happens to work in English as well."

In the shop manual it says "DME (Digital Engine Electronics)."

"Digital Engine Electronics" translates to "digitale Maschine Elektronik" in German (DME)
