Default Need 951 inspection in Chicago on Saturday! Need Recommendations!

I'm looking at an '86 951 in Chicago on Saturday and I need a reference of an indy mechanic that can assess what I'm up against. I can't afford to spend 8.5k on a car and all of a sudden have 3k of maintnance to do in the first three months. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

If theres no documented maintenance history, youve got to consider replacing the timing belt/water pump which could cost you over $1000 (even by a good independent shop). I have used Midwest Eurosport in Bensenville and HIGHLY recommend them for a Pre Purchase Inspection.

(Not sure where youre located but theres a nice 1987 944 Turbo in MD for $8400 on cars.com - no affiliation here but its a 2 owner car with 67k miles and I am sure you can get the car for $8K http://cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp...6&aff=national)

Thanks for the replies guys. The ad for the car is here:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...hreadid=285926

and here is what I've learned through emails:

"Kinda new to the area. I don't know the "good" Porsche mechanics yet.
I have all the maintenance records (and receipts) from when I have owned it. (alot of service for the typical 944 things) No history from the previous owners.
I have the past 2 owners names. Both from the Rochester, NY area. Up until 1 1/2 years ago that is where I lived.
Water pump is obviously the turbo style which doesn't give the same problems as the non-turbo pumps. The timing and balance shaft belts and rollers were replaced 2 seasons ago. No service history on the clutch but it feels fine and pulls hard.
The stock seat belts work fine. You can push the harness' out of the way (or remove them, they have clips)
The back seat has to be folded down for the harness bar. It can not be folded up with it in place.
Most recent car fax and my service history doc is attached."

4 10/28/03 124,017 Purchased from Graham Cassano in Honeoye Falls, NY. The car had almost no service history. (perviously owned by John Bosch)
5 6/12/04 124,123 Removed head due to broken exhaust manifold stud, had head reconditioned at T&W in Fairport, NY (multi-angle valve job, new guides, new stem seals, new springs, 0.005" cut off head to clean surface, 2 new exhaust manifold studs), replaced head studs with Race-Wear studs, used all new gaskets w/ wide fire ring head gasket, replaced timing and balance shaft belts and associated rollers, replaced power steering and A/C-Alternator belt, changed coolant and oil (Mobil 1 15W-50), changed brake fuild (ATE Super Blue)
6 12/13/04 124,321 Installed new Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires - front and rear
7 3/20/05 124,487 Had rear hatch resealed/adhered to frame, treated seats with Griot leather rejuvinator, changed power steering fluid
8 4/22/05 125,064 Replaced rear hatch rubber seal
9 5/18/05 125,678 4 wheel alignment, flushed coolant, replaced right and left lower control arms, reseal turbo, replaced radiator fan switch, replaced ignition wire set, replaced power steering hose
10 7/11/05 126,031 Replaced steering rack with ZF factory rebuilt unit
11 11/28/05 126,537 Replaced manufacturing defect Michelin PS2 tires with Michelin Exalto tires - front and rear
12 3/17/06 126,864 Replaced turn, wiper, cruise switch with used unit
13 4/15/06 127,091 Replaced front rotors with Zimmerman cross drilled, replaced brake pads with PBR Metal Master

So, based on that, what do you think of the car and its worth?

That is the kind of recommendation I'm looking for! Unfortunately, the car is located in Lake Villa, IL, and that's over an hour away. Anything closer to the car?
