i have been reading alot of posts about changing the belts and needing a tensioner tool. i found one at pelican online for $587. i looked at 944online.com and found one for $49. they are different, ones a dial, the other a slide?
http://www.944online.com/cgi-local/A...441+tools-9441
is the $49 tensioner the right one, just not as accurate?

Not too bad - depends on whether you intend to do the water pump as well. Belts are a couple of hours; add the WP and the time goes up significantly.

I purchased the tensioning tool, thin 27mm wrench, throttle body reseal kit and something else (i forgot) from Mr. Bruce (that website you see), A1 for his products and services.
As for the belt(s), it is very straight forward, but i understand that the Kriket tool doesn't work on 87+ cars with the spring tensioner.....

I did buy the 'gold plated' tensioning tool several years ago and although it has paid for itself many times over, had the Arnworx tool been available back then I sure would have bought it instead. It is a well engineered product (I am a mechanical engineer).

I have the previous generation t-belt tensioner, the balance belt tensioner and the tools, as well as the throttle body kit from Arnnworx. Excellent products and excellent service.

Sounds good. Thanks for the replys. Im sort of apprehensive about buying the 944, but my wife saw the pic of the car and she has been bit by the bug!! She really wants the 944. But thats her taste tho, either a 944 or a Jag. But at least I'll be driving the 944 for awhile cause she is currently overseas on her deployment.
If she gets the car then i get to put money into my 98 Jeep Wrangler, taller lift, bigger tires, etc.

With the prices of the P9201 high, I bought one anyway figuring that I can always sell it later. I got my off ebay for $400, used. I use it all the time. Not easy to use but precise when used correctly.
Also, it works on about any flat belt on various cars.
