Default 944S Head Job (pics)

Well a few days ago the 944S started running hot. Unfortunatly it was the headgasket. When we got the head off the headgasket looked to be in VERY bad shape. The head had become pitted from the huge holes that were in the headgasket, some so big they had to be welded. After beed blasting the head and cleaning it up the deep pits were welded up. Finally after being welded up the head was machined to take of .005 of an inch to clean it up. I was able to be involved in much of this work thanks to a bunch of people my dad knows lol money saver too Anyway I thought you guys might like to see some pics of the process so here they are, sorry some of them are kind of blurry.

a few of the pits that were welded

the head on the machine shimmed up and ready to cut

head finished up ready for valves

head being machined

ok thats all for now btw all of this was done today lol

Well hopefully the thicker headgasket comes in Monday. I don't know how much longer I can go without any wheels lol. Anyway here are some updated pics of what was done today and the destroyed headgasket.

the old headgasket

Wrapped the headers

I will post some more pics when I get a little further

Yeah arent those clamps neat. All of the stuff was free btw my dad just happened to have the stuff laying around the shop how lucky huh? Oh and the clamps were hand crafted stainless masterpieces.

Hmmm, let's see now...

1. Buy new camera

2. Repair damaged cylinder head and replace gasket.

Tough one

Likewise Matt, no harm, no foul. The entire thread is sarcasm. That's my son's cylinder head. If you reread the thread with that in mind you'll see I was joking as it'd be me that would be burdened with the cost of a new camera....

Anyways.....off to the shop to install the valves and bolt on the headers to prepare for the install. Thicker gasket will be here tomorrow.

What else would a "father" be doing on "father's" day.....?

those 16 valve heads are beautiful, aren't they?

might as well change the tensioner and valve guides while you're at it.
