The only reason I can see to remove the cat is to save weight. So, the logical choice would be to cut the cat out and weld in some 2.5" .065 tubing. Hell by a 20' stick of it for like 40-50 bucks and cut it accordingly and pimp it on ebay as "Super performance gaining 944 exhaust cat replacement." You might make a few bucks.
I have tried several 944 exhausts, including bursch, a test pipe I made for myself, and a very loud free flowing muffler. There are no, even slightly, noticable power gains. If you had custom software which allowed you to rev over 7k rpm, then maybe there would be a difference.
Yellow - thats not really a test pipe - just a stock exhaust piece up to the actual cat.

k well I'm pretty sure my old cat was garbage, it used to heat up really really hot. Running catless is starting to annoy me. The exhaust fumes are giving me a headache! What kind of cat should I be looking for? Will any 944 cat do or do I need an S2 cat?

if the old cat was getting really hot, there is something wrong with your car. if raw fuel goes in the cat, it burns like a jet engine with the heat of the exhaust...if your car is too lean, then you have a hot exhaust. you have to understand that these catalysts don't "wear out" rather, they get damaged and destroyed by other defects in the fuel or ignition systems.... classic snowball effect
