Default Couple of questions from new owner.

Hello,

My first sportscar was an '86 951 that I sold stupidly 8 years ago to get a bike. I found another in New York w/ 39000 mi and could not help myself. It was delivered to me and after a plug change and new oil I took it to the dealership to have everything checked out. Compression was good so that was a relief. They told me it was a first generation timing belt so I am having that replaced. The tech claimed on the paper that there were oil leaks and tranny fluid leaks. In the week I've had it there have been no traces of fluid on the garage floor. I checked underneath and I can see grime on the transmission case, but nothing dripping. Is this something to be really concerned about? When the belts are changed is that a good time to do anything else like head gasket or turbo upgrade? I know the water pump usually is done, but is it imperitive with the current mileage?

Finally, does anyone know of a good mechanic in the mid Michigan area or Ann Arbor MI area?

Thanks
Patrick

could be leaking into the underbelly plate if its still on there
trans will leak but usualy not much
Prob. has an early style belt tensioner- later one is better but not necessary-replace the belt asap
usually a good time to do front seals and water pump
