Default Looking for help in NW Illinois

I'd like to meet up with someone who has worked on 944/24's alot as a hobby to get their opinion on my 924. I've decided that the 924 and the 924's are an acceptable daily driver machine- it is comfortable for me to drive, and I like driving it, and i like working on it, the gas mileage is good and the liability insurance is the cheaper on this car than on anthing ive ever owned. But it does need alot of work, and before i go dropping several grand on parts I'd like someone who knows the brand who has a solid 944 or 924 to compare with mine in its as of late neglected condition.

Basically i need help to sort out what i need to fix first for the car to remain a reliable and fun daily driver, and I'd like to see some examples of well cared for and fully trimmed and polished 944/24's so I know what to work for.

I'll be happy to drive out to you, but weekends are difficult because i work three different jobs and often they are all happeing on the weekend. I live in Northwest Illinois and I'm a short dive to Wisconsin and Iowa, to give you an idea of locale.

Nobody? I'll probably just wait for another "meet" in my area, I missed the last one.

Hello White Pony. Where are you in the NW side. What year is your 924? There are a couple of us here on the west side. I am new here and know how to do some things. Not sure how much help I can be...

My car is a 1987 924S so it has the 2.5L engine, 5speed tranny. I just had "the works" done under the timing belt cover, it's about ~8k miles into a full timing/oil seal revamp. So it will run for awhile without gobs of attention- the clutch is good, the brakes are good (need pads), I think the bearings on the AC condensor are going bad because it squeals even with INSANE amounts of belt dressing put on the belts...

I'd just like to get an idea of what a good running car is like, compare and contrast it with mine, and hear opinions on whether or not I should throw money at my car or find a different one with less problems. It's really hard for me to determine because I have never ridden in a good running 944 or a 924, so I know very little where to start and am afraid of contributing to a lost cause.

I've been an instructor for eight years or so....so I may be able to tell you a little about what feels normal as I have driven lots of different cars. I have an 87 944 S...can't be that much different. There are definitely lots of people here who know what they are talking about more than I. Just look at MichelleJD's photos...looks like an insanely nice car!!!!

Hey, I'm on the border too, but I'm amost to Iowa, about 20 miles shy of it. Around Dubuque/Galena area. GREAT curvy roads around here I'm about 3:20 from O'Hare and 2 hours from Madison WI, :35 from Platteville WI. Rockford is about 1:30 to 1:15.

Just a reminder, and kinda fits here, there is a PCA DE/Club race at the Autobahn Country Club in Jolliet(?) Il this weekend. Spectators have always been welcome at club races before and this should be no different. If you go, look me up 87 944S..."orange #7" I'm doing the DE, and there might be some spots still left. If you have not been to a club race I highly suggest it.

I went to the PCA event at Road America last year and had a little hassle at registration getting through the gate. Helps to have someone put your name on a crew or guest list so registration knows you're here with someone and not just showing up out of the blue. That was Chicago PCA. Is Milwaukee more easy going?

Milwaukee is very easy going. I will try and check to see if there will be a problem. What day did you go to RA. Not sure if I have ever had a problem on the Sun race day. It's always a good idea to bring along your membership card.

That was last year labor day weekend. I went on Sunday, came back Monday. I dropped a name to get in and the lady doing registration said "That's the worst possible name you could have used."

Oh my god that looks fun... I wish I had known sooner! I may be able to show up but I have to work most of this weekend.
