Located on the oil cooler housing, below the oil filter.
Not too difficult to access.

there is very limited room to work to get it off. i bought a 15/16" crow foot for 3/8" drive ratchet and i think i used a three inch extension. this still took lots of time to reposition every once in a while. a stubby wrench MAY be better, but im not sure if a stubby is still stubby enough to move in the small area.
not extremely difficult as in torque wise, but still takes some time.

It's simple to get to if you just remove the RF wheel and go straight at it with a long (or two) extension(s) and a standard socket through the fender area. After the wheel is off it takes no more a than a minute to back it out and makes it so much easier to reinstall than doing it from the engine compartment.

What year is your car? The late models used a one piece design with a corrosion inhibitor.

Your car will have a 3-piece OPRV unless it's already been changed out to the 1-piece conversion style OPRV. You'll know when you remove it.

remove it, clean it, re-install it, lifes good again. Just learn HOW to do so properly, or you just MAY be having to purchase another one. Tain't no big thing. It is a cleanable/reusable item. IF done correctly.

Brake cleaner is your friend. If it's a 3-piece, check for scoring on the piston and spray some carb cleaner and compressed air into the bore on the block. My car had some kind of sludge at the base of the bore causing my OP problems. If it's a 1-piece type use the same cleaner and check the lower o-ring on the OPRV; it should be pliable, not hardened up.

i pulled my OPRV out, real easy to do. it is the 3 piece unit. plug, spring and the cup look good. but i do not see an O-ring on the cup. just a 1/4 wide 1/16 deep recess around the outside near the bottom. would this make the pressure slow to rise?
also, a good source for this part(local Porsche dealer?) and what is the description?

thanks for ALL the help

Robin

Just make sure to get the alignment correct on reinstall, if the valve binds and fails to lift you will blow the oil filter seal and drop MANY quarts of oil on the floor.

If you don't get oil pressure on start, look at the floor.

so ther is NO o-ring for this model? i am confused. i have read a couple of parts site that list inner and outer o-rings. in another diy page, the writer said he wasn't sure if the 3 piece has any rubber seals.....
