It actually wasn't too terrible. I'd do it again if someone paid me enough.
Loved your blog. Unfortunately, most of the work is between me and the car. Defintely replacing the hoses to the ICV before reassembly.

The Factory Manuals says the head washers can not rotate when torquing. How did you guys pull off this trick?

Hey MBC, clean the air stabilizer really well while you are in there, I regret not doing that... my line replacement helped idle a lot, but I should have cleaned the damned device more.

Finger-tighten the nuts and go for it, they didn't rotate.

Thanks for the reminder. I have to post pics. It is pitch black filthy in in the intake manifold.

Same here. Pipe over breaker bar.

You're going to love the 2 cheesehead bolts that go through the bleeder pipe, the head, and into the block. Other than that and cleaning the surfaces, it wasn't a boring or difficult job. Manifold bolts and studs came out nicely for me.

I did not come across any cheesehead bolts and I am down to the head. Where should I be looking for this?

Hmm, maybe they were Allen. Front of the block, holding down the right angle piece that attaches to the upper rad hose.

I know what those are now. No problems. Those were allen key bolts. I guess Porsche got smart and switched them for later year models.

The head of the bolt isn't the problem, they go right by a cooling passage and tend to freeze into the block. You can't remove the head easily with the broken studs stuck in the block. My car needed helicoils.
