While not wanting to start a separate debate on the merits of NA braking power - I think you should go with the collective experience of those who've done the engine swap and realize that the first thing they need to do is upgrade the brakes.

Not an immediate need, but a close second as soon as the bank account recovers.
You are right I should listen to someone with experience. But just because someone has changed from small to big brakes doesn't mean they have experience or that x is better than y for application A. From what I've read from experts the reason you get bigger brakes is because of heat disapation. There was a thread on this a while ago and we all agreed that for street, bigger wasn't needed. Someone even said that he "flogged his all day on the track" with no problem. On a track I can see that you want them if you are serious racer, but if you just use them for fun then its $3k down the drain.

That having been said, how much faster in speed and acceleration is a 944/924 with a 968 engine than one with a stock engine. From what I know a 968 will take a car to 120 but so would my stock 944na. The 968 is just roughly 25% faster in all areas.

I also want bigger brakes, but I also like to get past the hype and know exactly how much "better for me" $3,000 brakes are.

it depends highly on the usage. For street use in a non mountainous area, NA brakes are great. I took mine to the track though, and they overheated very badly within 11 laps of Second Creek Raceway (RIP second creek)

I have cross drilled NA rotors on the front, but I dont plan on going to a track anytime soon... I wonder if they would help keep them cool?

There really is a lot of info if you search for "968 engine swap", but you do have to go through a lot of digging as well. Matt's website is an excellent write-up. Other tricky bits to worry about -- how to get the exhaust to bolt up, electrical harness matchup nightmare, and what to do for the air filter.

You'll open up a Pandora's box if you do this. You won't *need* upgraded brakes, but you will *want* them. You won't *need* better suspension, but you will *want* it. You won't *need* stronger tranny, but you will *want* it (actually, I take the last one back -- you'll need a stronger tranny). These days, I'm thinking, "I need a supercharger...."

Costwise, it will most likely be cheaper to buy a 968 outright -- but what's the fun in that? The expense (and time spent) won't seem as bad if the old motor is already out, you want something unusual (lightweight or Q-car), and you like projects.

I need a team of mechanics and body men and a bunch of parts... and a big garage...
