Any suggestions on what brand of springs to buy? Does anyone else think this "spacer" is making my car ride rough or would stiffer springs be worse?

From your picture, I am guessing that you have the weight on the car, correct? And that the spring/strut are compressed to ride height? Or with the car jacked up and the wheel removed, you put another jack under the brake rotor and jacked up the front suspension to compress the spring/shock? If so, I dont see anything that looks unusual or broken.
There are no spacers on there, or helper springs. That is just the weltmeister spring with the tighter pitch coils bottomed out. If you look at the picture that Porsche Doc posted, the non-compressed struts with the welt springs, you see the approx 6 coils that are closer together - those coils end up touching/bottoming out when the weight is on the car and the strut and spring are compressed - which is normal/fine for the weltmeister springs.
Also, I didnt know there were any 34th ID units in MT(?).

What is your harness bar screwed into?
Looks like you have a few sheet metal screws driven through the interior panel into the sheet metal subframe behind the panel? If so, that is NOT safe at all - not strong enough to anchor the shoulder belts in an accident.
Should be anchored at the seat belt shoulder mounting point (the plastic screw cap about 4-8" above where you have it mounted). This area is reinforced to handle some load, but there is no reinforcement in the substructure where you have your screwed in (and those screws are not strong enough either).
