Looking good there Chris! I definitely know how you feel, it has taken me way longer than planned to get my car to where it is at the moment... 20 years of grime takes a bit of work to remove! But I certainly agree you can't put it together dirty. At this point I can test fit parts in my work clothes and not get dirty at all... makes it much nicer to work on.

Cleaning the inside of the car and the engine bay defintely requires patience and a good supply of beer and shop towels. And continued motivation to keep things rolling!

Anyway, nice to have a couple other guys developing spec cars in parallel with my build - it's great to look at the things others are doing and double check your work. Keep it up, we'll both be on track soon enough!

Again, nice work... I need to do the rod bearings in mine too. I have a manual rack and intermediate shaft here, along with a bunch of other stuff to do at the same time. The work on these things never ends!

I should have some new stuff posted soon as well.... good luck racing this year!

Cool, thanks Eric.

Well if you decide that manual rack is to much work, you just send it my way, huh?

Your documentation is excellent! Did you by any chance weigh the car before so you can get an accurate number for pounds shed? Also, did you do a leak down test on the engine? Changing a head gasket, rings, etc. is so much easier with the motor out. Then again, I guess in a race car the motor doesn't stay in for years on end....

nice work. it appears that your floorpan tar is much more extensive and hard to remove than it was in my E36 BMW. i had a lot of tar floormats, but not as extensive as yours. next you need the cage!

Thanks!

Actually, no. I've been weighing most things I remove, including the bagged up sound deadening, and I'll get to posting that when the car is finished. There's also a recycler locally with a full scale, so I'm going to drive my car up there when it stops over-heating and see what it comes in at. I'll probably do it again when the car is caged.

I did a dry, cold compression test and was happy with those numbers. I should have done a leak-down, but I don't have the proper equipment. It runs well, so I'm not too concerned.

I was supposed to get the cage next month, but I'm getting married...so no more money for me

Thanks for the responses guys! T-bars, bushings and konis are next!

Awesome... after getting my car out on track last week, the suspension is my next step too... what spring rates and torsion bars did you end up using?

You car is looking good... you've done everything you need to get it solid for the track.... now get out there!

Eric,

Thanks! I'm autocrossing in San Diego next weekend

Fronts: 7" 400lb Eibachs
Rears: 30mm t-bars

I drove it to the alignment shop yesterday and it was not too harsh on the street. My daily driver feels about that stiff! I can't comment on the handling characteristics yet, but I think this is a good setup for me.

No problem! I did it as much for me as for everybody else.

Don't be intimidated by torsion bars, just give yourself plenty of time (and beer ) and take a bunch of pre-install measurements and pictures. Joe Paluch's excel spreadsheet for t-bars is worth it's weight in gold too.
