968 door handle upgrade

Hmmm, 1986's should be ok. If I understand correctly the earlier cars had a different lock cylinder that would not swap into the 968 handles. Jeff @ Sunset was unsure if my early 86 turbo would be a direct swap (it was.)
On mine I knocked the pin out holding the cylinder in, put the key in, unscrewed the back (phillips head) and removed the spring and two pieces from the rear. Pulled cylinder out from the front of the handle and reassembled. Remove key. This should slide right into the 968 handle - reset pin. Any pictures of your lock cyl's by chance - that may help?

WAIT A SEC... Sam- you said "On mine I knocked the pin out holding the cylinder in, put the key in, unscrewed the back (phillips head) and removed the spring and two pieces from the rear. Pulled cylinder out from the front of the handle and reassembled. Remove key. "
What is the point of putting the key in & then removing AFTERWARDS? I'm not 100% sure I did this... Could this be why mine are so screwed up? They're all messed up & they don't spring back into place like they're supposed too, etc...

I did the upgrade as well, I bought my "kit" from Sunset. It is a pain to install however I used the above mentioned guide and alot of patience and it all worked out fine. The only item you will be able to reuse is the cylinder. The trigger is longer than the older handle.
