The PET thing goes back a couple years, when a determined UK hacker broke the locks on The proprietary parts application Porsche distributed to dealers. Copies got into the wild fairl quickly, but the Porsche lawyers shup him down.

Its all old news now. Most dealers [Sunset is one] now sell the complete parts catalog on CD for $15 or so. Its exactly lile PET for content, but without the hooks to pricing and ordering [that were useless for us non-dealers anyway!]

Just a guess from my schoolboy German classes and the fact that most Grman/Austrian/Swiss companies that I order repair parts from list "replacement parts" in German language as 'Ersatz Teile" literally 'substitute pieces' I think.

"PET" may therefore be "Porsche Ersatz Teile"... -just a guess...

The VW equivalent is "ETKA", which also has the letters 'ET' at the front, so I guess that they are fairly ubiquitous, leading me to suspect ersatz teile may be close or correct.

Just installed mine today. Let me tell you the first one is A TOTAL BITCH and took hours. The second one we had off, swapped cylinders, installed the new actuator arm and bolted in in about ~15-20 minutes. Be careful for the plastic white lock attachment arm - we dropped mine twice inside the door Pics to follow tomorrow.

Actually, you can reuse the 944 levers.... another thing you can do is just paint the 944 handles themselves.. this looks very nice, but not quite as nice as 968 handles... IMO...

So the autoparts warehouse set is incomplete...?? I just bought a pair myself. There's no way to use any of the hardware from the old handles (tumblers, internal parts etc?). IF not, I'm returning mine too...

Michelle JD

Thanks for you kind offer to help...I think i'll be ok for now.... I should be able to install thes door handles...

What you could maybe help me with is figure out where this boost leak is coming from....
________________________________________________________________________ _______

AZ944

i WOULD NOT return yours...they charge 20% restoking fee.....

it's not incomplete...i just thought for some reason it would be the whole kit...

try calling sunset porsche...ask for jeff... and get the parts you would need...

GASKETS and CYLINDER LOCK CAP.....

you can reuse the cylinder lock and the lever from all that i know of....
________________________________________________________________________ ______

like i said i ordered the parts that i was missing to make this a complete kit...and i should be getting them in a couple of days....in the mean time i should go get these painted

Thanks

I'm in the opposite boat, I broke both my 968 handles trying to swap them from car to car. So I've got all the hardware and need just the handle itself. So if either one of you want to get rid of just your handles PM me.

I really bought the farm on mine. The handles go in with the window express, central locking, and dynamat.

Ok, wait a sec.... yes, the tumblers DO interchange- they just go in differently... You need to read the how-to written by Keith Foster:

http://www.951motorsports.com/968DH.htm

He also has one for Mirrors...

http://www.951motorsports.com/

This should help you tremendously...

You can reuse the triggers (levers), the tumblers (you'd BETTER, since new are ~$300/ea), 7 possibly several other things- you don't even have to buy new inner connectors (forget the term) that hook to backside of handle- you can just dremel handle backside to fit (VERY CAREFULLY- DO NOT cut too much- I broke my driver side finally broke from being too thin after a year from this)... BTW- I'd recommend painting the handles BEFORE dremeling- had only I known.....

Otherwise, if it's too much, you can always pull the 944 handles & have them painted body color- it does look nice- & then put the money towards the mirrors... which I think is more important anyway, but that's just opinion... BOTH is the best, of course....

BTW- I THINK the handles are only $60/ea at Sunset..... I just bought a new driver not too long ago...
