Default Wheel bearing installation problem

Hi, I'm trying to get my car back together after replacing the wheel bearings. The stub axle goes on to within about 1/2" of normal. The inner race of the outboard bearing also likes to get stuck on the axle and slide out as I tap the axle in. According to Clark's writeup, I'm doing everything right. Should I just drop the exhaust and really be able to hit the backing board, or is something not going together right? Thanks.

Stub axle has no visible wear, btw.

So you've got steel a-arms, right?

When I do it, this does happen as I slide the axles in; I just reinsert the inner race. Everything just slides together for me. If it's not sliding together easily (not saying it should, my racecar may be more worn than others), I would recommend removing the outer race and bearings to the point that they're lined up w/ the inner race, then gently tapping them all in together (so as to avoid damaging the bearing rollers).

Does that help?

I found the problem. The inner race on the outer wheel bearing was too small and locked the whole assembly up; it didn't want to continue sliding down the stub axle. NAPA had the SKF bearing from Germany in stock, worked like a charm. That's the second time Pelican sent something that didn't work, and it'll be the last for sure. Thanks, Vaughn.
