Default Wear GOGGLES!!!

Just got back from the ER because of stupidity on my part. While sealing the new battery for my bike, I manganed to squirt some battery acid in my eye....to say the least it burns like a bitch and I could have saved a lot of money (and time NOT in the ER) I know working under these cars you will get dirt and crud in your eyes (and the various fluids a car uses) so as annoying/stupid looking goggles are they are worth it...even if it obscures your vision...its less then a blind eye would obscure

Ouch! I know how bad things in your eye can feel, so far I have racked up gas, antifreeze, metal, oil, brake fluid, battery acid from some AAA batteries, and the worst being orange blast degreaser. Hope your alright!

LOL, I thoth this might be a fashion statement thing.. When I bought my 924 I got a a pair of driving glove and a beret for Christmas... Goggles would be too far.

Nonetheless, I agree 100%. Even worse had the battery exploded- I'm sure many of us can do with facial scarring, as long as we can see to drive!!! I keep a face shield for battery work and oil changes.

Hope you gonna make it!

Ouch, I know how that feels, I've gotten brake fluid in my eyes twice, and a piece of rust so big that it literally felt like it was cutting my eye. Thankfully my 20/10 vision is still working fine.

Oh yeah, I've gotten brake fluid, rust (under neath these old cars is hell) and dirt in there and they are all terrible, but I can honestly battery acid would be my last choice to get sprayed with again..

I was freaking out that my perfect vision would no longer be perfect....on the upside, the doctor in the ER was hot beyond comprehension (esp. for a doctor!!!)

Any of you ever have to get that thick contact tye thing with a hose coming out of it? I can't even see people put contacts in without tearing up and that was pure hell. I'm happy its over with!!

do you any of you use goggles?? My paranoid mom picked up a fair of yellow work glasses, but they make it kind of hard to see and don't over 100% protection... if anyone can reccomend some good goggles I'd appriecate it very much!

I got water-thin super glue in my eye once. That was a bitch. I imagine battery acid wasn't pleasant.
I also hot very hot coolant sprayed in my face years ago when a tank burst on an overheating car. Unpleasant, to say the least.

Worst was a full shot of carburetor cleaner into a u groove and right into the eye. Chunks were coming out for 30 minutes as it was dissolving pieces of my eye. Needless to say, it hurt beyond words can describe.

I was nailing house wiring staples (the kind with the plastic protector) without saftey glasses once and had a small piece of plastic fly up and embed itself in my eye. Not only was it painful but quite embarassing. I wouldn't tell the doctor how it really happened - I said something flew up off the road while I was driving. He didn't believe me for a second... Stupid Human tricks....

me n my buddy have replaced fuel lines in just about all of his cars (mine thankfully have no leaks in the fuel lines) we got gas in our eyes so many times it doesnt even hurt anymore. his 79 trans am was the worst case though. for further referance, clean the underside of any vehicle before working under it. i keep forgetting that part....

As a doc. (but not a very hot one ), I am paranoid about eye protection - I own about 8 pairs of goggles and have them scattered about the garage so a pair is never far away and easy to grab.

So far - no eye horror stories to tell.

this is a perfect reason why its a good idea to have an emergancy eye was kit handy even the best eye protection isnt enough and quick axcess to a wash kit can be the difference between vision and blindness.

OUCH!!!

few years back I actually got a steel wire off of a wire wheel on big grinder stuck in eyball.
Most amazing thing..... I was wearing wrap around gogles and cannot explain to this day how it went around them and into my eye

Needless to say after removal and a few weeks the eye was a keeper no permamnant damage after all said and done.
