If you want to go without a harness just grab a set of the E-codes or V+ housings. They come with the standard wattage bulbs which should be ok for stock wiring though you will be fighting a 2+ Volt drop. 2 Volts is about the average drop with OEM wiring so the bulbs won't be operating at their peak potential.
If you end up going with a harness as well you can also grab some of the 80/100 W bulbs which will light up the night. The stock wiring will not last all that long with those so a harness is required to run them.
It all depends on what you want out of your lighting. You can always start with the housings / standard bulbs and upgrade to brighter ones and a harness later.

A 2v drop is noticeable. Maybe one of the guys that already has the harness installed can snap a pic tonight. You just unplug the harness connector from the passenger side headlamp and plug in the one from the cars original wiring. Flip on the headlights and take a look. You should see a difference between the one running the harness and the one on the stock wiring. Thats the decrease in light due to voltage drop.
(Plus you can run higher wattage bulbs with the harness installed)

Travis, Why does it look like I'm "Topping off the reserve tank" of the EM 50 in your avatar??
seriously tho.. If I was considering keeping the 924S as a ongoing daily driver, there would be bought and installed asap. With the amount of driving I'm now doing it looks as tho the "Ol girl" may be retired to weekend use. 1700 miles this week, PM is overdue, I'm afraid i'm gonna drop a part on the highway soon.
