Question T-bar carrier mount/spring plate cover bushings???

Y'all,

So, I have been working very slowly on this rear suspension rebuild. mostly because I am lazy, but also because of other obligations. Anyway, in addition to the Elephant Racing bushing/bearings I also bought a set of Weltmeister bushings for the front mount on the spring plate cover. But now I am having reservations about using the Weltmeister bushings. My first issue is that the stock bushings are still in good nick and my second issue is that the Welt bushings do not have a metal insert like the stock bushings. This concerns me in that I would think it would be difficult to torque the mount bolt properly as there is no limiting element other than the bushing itself.

So, does anybody have any thoughts on this? Should I just stick with the stock bushings or replace with the Weltmeisters?

I recently installed them with no problems other than having to grind on them a little to make them fit. According to Jason at Paragon, they don't really move much so they don't have to be a perfect fit. No issues yet but I haven't had them long.

Were the old ones pretty easy to push out? They look like they should be.

I replaced them and if I had to do it again I would not. The stock ones are fine if not better for the reasons you pointed out. Plus it is a pain to remove

I went with solid aluminum pucks, copied from the D Prod cars...

He's right, there's really no movement there...

I'm leaving them stock then. No need to wrestle with it at this point and wind up with a substandard Weltmeister bushing in the mix.

Michael,

I'm in the same position as you are. I had brought the Weltmeister bushings, and then, after hearing negative feedback I switched to quality bushings (Racer's Edge in my case) for the spring plates and have elected to leave the torsion tube carrier bushings alone for the reasons discussed above:

They look in good shape

They have a metal sleeve so you can torque to spec.
