Can the charcoal canister be deleted?
I accidentally cracked the nipple on the top of the charcoal canister while attempting to remove the stupid compression clip. Being that it is 20 years old I doubt it was that effective. Given that the car will be used for mostly track duty can the canister be safely deleted? I assume I would need to run a new longer line down from the engine bay under the car to vent the fumes? I do also assume the car would still pass a normal emissions test as this only filters the gas tank fumes?
I've searched and found info that leads me in this direction, but I just wanted to confirm it was ok. Thanks.

take out all that crap with it. the stuff on the top of the driver fender with the vacuum lines going to that valve. then if your really serious you can follow the line all the way back to the tank and cap it off.

i deleted the canister on my supra along time ago. I thought hey weight savings. After a month of getting headaches from all the fumes esp w/ the targa top out, i put that thing back in. If anything you could reroute it to the back of the car and rig up an aftermarket smaller charcoal tank back there. I know you were hoping i would say just cut the line and be done.

So, the canister just collects the fumes and lets them condense into liquid for re-use, right? But just how much fuel is saved? A couple of drops, or a lot? Can't you just rig up a venting hose to point out the back of the car so that it won't stink up the cabin?

I would be interested in a good way of pulling the system out. The main concern of mine is that the fumes expand inside the gas tank. I know that I tried to delete the system on my previous BMW, and I plugged the system and everything worked fine until I went to open the gas cap and a massive burst of air/gas shot out all over me. A rennlister I know said he deleted his entire system including the vacuum unit things over in that corner of the car. I will see if I can find out what he did.

You can delete it, and put a filter on the line, it's still vented and will help to keep the fumes away, if you just do it in the engine bay. You can also take the line back under the car and put a filter there.

I removed everything in the engine compartment and plugged the hardline at the firewall (I'll pull the rest of it to the tank later). For venting I found a replacement Fram gas cap and drilled a small hole in it. No fumes at all. This cap will not pass an emissions test and is non-locking. If you have to go for an emissions test then just put the stock (non-vented) cap back on and make sure you have 1/4 tank of gas (should provide enough void space in the tank so it doesn't pressurize as much)
