Default A little advice please

I will soon be welding my floorpan where the seat has pushed through the bottom tearing the floor. My question is- what gauge is the steel in our floorpans and what size wire, setting and tip would one use to mig these tears back together? Many thanks.

i would run a .023 or .03 tip/wire on a mig with gas-not sure w/o prob. the same but you have to reverse polarity to get it to weld properly w/o gas i think. I would find some sheetmetal close to the same thickness- not thin sheetmetal that will just burn when you try to weld it real good.

No offense here, butt, if you really feel the need to ask these questions, than, you probably need to either...........get an experienced welder to do it for ya, or.........practice alot on some small gauge sheet metal prior to going after this.

Clean it up good around the welding area, be prepared for fire, and cover everything up well with welding blankets, to protect against splatter burns.

Metal gauge in the floor is around 18/20 ga. IIRC (not sure). You will be wanting to use the smallest solid core wire you got, (around .024"), and hopefully, you've got the gas bottle setup using (preferably) 75% argon/25% CO2. Flux wire will be generally to hot to handle this. Everything depends on how good/experience you are with mig welding. Just my .002.

I'm sure you've already thought of this, butt, of course you gotta make sure there are not fuel or brake lines in harms way running under floorboards while welding this, and of course you could weld from underneath the car, with a spotter watching the inside for fire and ect. Both sides of floorboard of course must be cleaned and prepped before welding. I'm sure ya already covered this, just a thought or two I had.
