Default oil in throttle body WTF??

like the topic sayz i have oil in throttle body? why? the two hoses that come out of the big 3" hose that runs to the air cleaner, are full of oil as well. would this be causing my high idle problem? im having the car looked at sometime in the near future, so i want a few suggestion to tell the guy who looks at it. i cleaned the throttle body out and there was this sludge just caked on there. im not familiar with any pollution controls on this engine. from what i understand there is no egr or pcv valve. so any suggestion would be helpfull
thanx

AOS - Air Oil Seperator

Here's a good thread that describes what it is, how it works and what happens when the o-rings go bad

Had the same prolem on my car, the seals were bad enough that i had very large extrenal leakage on the drivers side of the oil pan. I was also burning through about 1 quart every 1000 miles. I changed the o-rings and consumption has dropped to about .25 quarts every 1000 miles about and the leak is gone. I think the other quarter of a quart is due to the leaking rear main seal and maybe a little bit of blow-by due to possible worn rings.

Changing the o-rings is really a fairly simple job, but a bit of a PITA as the intake manifold and fuel rail need to come off. Its however a good time to address the vacuum lines and hoses that are underneath the intake.

Techno Duck - Did you see any difference in vacuum at idle after you replaced the o-rings?

None whatsoever, my peak vac was between 22-23in/hg and its still about the same now. Thats even after replacing this bugger under the intake!

Im happy to say my vaccuum lines and hoses are just about 100% replaced, i still havent gotten to maybe one or two of them that run under the plastic cover over the firewall.

One thing i still find strange (But apparently is normal) is how low the vac drops when im crusing at constant speed on the expressway, its gone as low as 10in/hg.

ok so thats good to know, i think ill replace those vacuum lines under the intake, those aos rings and the piston rings if need be. the car does have 300K+ on it so i think they are pretty much at the end of there life. thanks

i wouldn't assume just because of the car's mileage it needs piston rings. have you checked compression? as long as its above 145 psi you are ok

those tubes should have oil in them anyway. if its not pouring oil then they are doing their job. which is to keep a vacuum in the cranckcase. a side-effect being that it sucks up oil vapors and gets everything in that hose and after covered in oil after a while. want to get rid of it? get an oil catch can and put it in series with that hose.

could this problem be similar to finding oil in your air box? cuz, I discovered oil in my air box (intake) and i don't know why it got there ... The car runs good, i guess.

couldnt i just slap on a small valve cover breather to the hose that provides the crankcase ventilation, ive seen this on other pictures of 944's just not sure how good it would work

you shouldnt do that. that would get rid of the vacuum on the crankcase. which is supposed to be there. catch can is better. gets rid of oil. looks cool. and keeps vacuum.

Your car is bleeding internally! I have this problem too; it's not severe, and I had just chalked it up to a german car thing.
